After reviewing the following, please remember to see the [[#Outstanding Laser Questions]] at the bottom of this document.
## Objective
The **overall objective** is to remotely print and encode cards, utilizing duplex YMCK+UV printing, duplex laser marking, and duplex lamination.
The **short term objective** is to have the Laser functioning inline with the K60 and L10D; printing and marking cards using CardLogix CEE Pro.
## Current Laser Issues Needing Resolution
- in general, the Laser has **never** successfully loaded or marked a card by any method since taking delivery. In July and August, attempts were made from CEE, the web interface, and directly from SAMLight on the Laser's embedded PC.
- I am unable to transport a card into the laser position from the ```192.168.2.202``` web interface. None of the listed sources successfully transport a card.
- I am unable to load and mark a simple demo ```sfl``` from the ```192.168.2.202``` web interface. I followed the exact steps detailed in the *IDC Service manual Rev31* PDF document.
- I am unable to load a test ```sfl``` SAMLight project on the embedded PC and execute the marking process.
- I am unable to print and mark any cards whatsoever using the CEE software. It won't even move a card into the encoding or laser positions.
- I need the full end-to-end demonstration working for me as it did at the CardLogix office in June.
## Environment
The physical devices orientation from right to left is ```Kanematsu K60 printer > IXLA IDC Laser > Kanematsu L10D laminator```
### Laser
- The following connections are verified in accordance with photos taken at CardLogix in June 2026, plus exact configuration detailed in the *IDC Service manual Rev31* PDF document; starting on page 25:
- The PC is connected to the Laser via Ethernet at IP 192.168.2.202. There are no issues connecting to the IP.
- The Laser is connected to the K60 by USB
- The Laser is connected to the L10D laminator by a serial port connection
- The PC (running CardLogix CEE) is connected to the K60 internal Contact and Contactless encoders by USB. Is it correct to assume the need for that is because CEE can't encode the chip by sending the commands through the Laser?
- The installed version of SAMLight[^1] on the IXLA IDC embedded PC is v3.9.5 build 0075
### PC
- Installed specifically to run the Laser and encode the MOST chips is CardLogix CEE v1.28.5.0, dated 22 Jul 2026
- Installed for normal card printing and laminating is Card Presso XXL v1.7.140.1
## Card Production Steps
This needs to be an automated process that I can initiate remotely.
NOTE: All of my 64 unique cards are double-sided, duplex printing.
### Step by Step Execution
#### Important Notes
NOTE: All card projects have the IC chip on *front side* for consistency. Every project is configured that way to ensure perfect alignment of the chip and the artwork.
NOTE: All card projects were originally created in CardPresso XXL v1.7.140.1. There are exacting artwork alignment issues with CardPresso, which are resolved for card front side printing by adjusting the margins in the ```Print > Settings``` tab. There is no ability to set different print margins for front and back, which is why exact alignment is done on the front side where the chip needs to perfectly match the artwork.
#### Ordered execution Steps
Following are the steps needed in execution order:
1. Encode the C7, C8, or J3R180 cards with the selected CFS. I currently have 11 unique CFSes.
2. Encode the chip with the individual data values to populate the CFS EF files. Those data values are provided by SQL Server per record request.
3. K60 - print the card front YMCK+UV
4. K60 - print the card back YMCK+UV
5. IXLA IDC optionally mark the card front side (with chip)
6. IXLA IDC definitely mark the card back (no chip)
7. L10D - apply ThinFilm holographic overlay to the front side of the card (with chip)
8. Manual - apply a 20mm round, transparent, hologram stamp to the upper-right corner of the back side of the card (no chip)
## Supporting Screenshots
These screenshots were captured on Sun, 18 Oct 2026 for the intention of resolving the ability to use the IXLA laser at all.

#### Web Interface Device Status
This is the device status and serial numbers for the Laser. There have not been any issues connecting to the web interface. Furthermore, the web interface correctly updates when the status of any modules change.
IMPORTANT: Notice that the laminator is not found, even though it is properly connected using the serial port cable from the Laser to the L10D.

#### SCAPS: SAMLight version
Version 3.8.5 build 0075 was previously installed on the embedded PC of the Laser. SAMLight was updated to the current version (v4.5.5) on September 19th because no method of marking cards was successful, but then the embedded PC would not boot and the dongle was not recognized. The archived version of SAMLight v3.8.5 is not available for download from [download.scaps.com/downloads/Software/SAMLight/Installer/Old\_Versions/](https://download.scaps.com/downloads/Software/SAMLight/Installer/Old_Versions/). The oldest version available there is v3.9.5.
SAMLight v3.9.5 build 0075 was successfully installed, the embedded PC booted correctly, and the security dongle was successfully recognized. That is the version currently running on the IDC embedded PC.

#### IDX console source output
This is the IDX console output upon laser device reboot. This screenshot was captured after connecting to the Laser using Remote Desktop Connection.
IMPORTANT: Notice that the laminator is not found, even though it is properly connected using the serial port cable from the Laser to the L10D. Also notice the other module errors.

#### Attempting manual card transport
None of the listed sources succeed in transporting a blank card from the selected source to the Laser destination.

#### Attempting to manually mark a card
The objective was to test that the Laser is functioning properly.
These were the steps:
1. Connect to the Laser using Remote Desktop (192.168.2.202)

## Outstanding Laser Questions
- I would like to be able to execute the lamination step **before** marking with the Laser. The use for that is to laminate with the ThinFilm (not the 1mil patch) and then laser mark that ThinFilm side after the lamination. That device configuration was successfully demonstrated in June 2026 at the CardLogix office. What adjustments need to be made so we can utilize that configuration?
- Why was a laser I just purchased delivered with a 6 year old version of SAMLight? There have been 6 major releases since then. It would be logical to have a much newer build on a new device. How can we update SAMLight to the current version, while maintaining compatibility with the IXLA IDC security dongle?
- I need to update the Laser's IP address to match the ```dev-central``` private subnet. What additional steps need to be taken in addition to simply changing the LAN IP in Windows?
- Why can't the card encoding be done directly through the Laser, instead of having the K60 hard-wired to the PC for encoding by CardLogix CEE?
- What is the endless list of ```sfl``` projects on the embedded PC? There are easily 50+ projects for a Matica laser and others, plus endless projects created by different users. Are they of any value to me? Why are they there?
- why didn't I receive any documentation whatsoever about how to use the Laser with CEE??? Apparently I paid thousands of dollars customizing CEE Pro for the IDC Laser. It would make sense to know what the thousands of dollars paid for and how to utilize those changes. I didn't even get a one-pager.
- How can I do the SAMLight layouts on my PC and then copy them over to the Laser's embedded PC? It seems that SAMLight won't run without a dongle. The optional "demo mode" when starting SAMLight on my PC does not allow saving. Geez. There must be a way.
